Georgia's Is On The Road Again!

Hi Friends:

Summer is coming to a close and Georgia's has been busy hitting every market in search of great vintage finds that are utilitarian and will mix in with any decor. We are heading to New York this week and then on to the Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, Massachusetts. Before we go, we wanted to share a few of our favorite finds from two barn sales that we attended last weekend.
I can't tell you how much I love this late 1800's two-board mahogany table!
We are getting lucky with benches. The original green paint is so cheery and we love the mortise and tenon construction.
This mid 1800's poplar 6-board (each side is one solid board) blanket chest hails from New York and also has original paint. While it looks teal in the picture, it is actually a beautiful sea green.
We couldn't pass up this vintage robin's egg blue wall cabinet. Great color, moulding and hardware!

Are you looking for something in particular, let us know. You can also find our products listed on One Kings Lane. If you're not a member, sign up, it's free! We currently have two farm tables for sale and a vintage green swing scheduled for sale on August 29th.

While we're away we'll stay in touch by posting inspirational finds and moments on Facebook. Visit us or follow us @ GeorgiasHI on Instagram. We'll be back in two weeks!

The Dog Days of Summer!

Hi Friends:

It's certainly not "ruff" being a dog around here.
Our pampered pups are enjoying the sultry lazy, hazy days of summer. When I'm bustling about in the kitchen, though, they do manage to rouse themselves from slumber and follow me around ready for the inevitable tidbit or cookie that comes their way. How can I deny these faces:
I recently came across a few simple recipes for dog treats and decided to give them a try. I know, who has time to make dog treats, but these are quick, easy and fun to make with the family. In addition, they are healthy containing no preservatives or additives, flavorful and less expensive than many store bought varieties!

I love this recipe from Sweet Paul Magazine:

Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Treats - Makes 60
Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/4 cup warm water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl (you'll get a dry cookie dough), roll out until thin and use a cookie cutter to make cookies.
Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20 to 30 minutes depending on thickness. Cool and store in an airtight container for two weeks.
What a good boy; so talented!
Dogs love a cool treat on hot days. Give this genius recipe from Lucky Pups a try; it's so fast and easy!

Pupsicles
Ingredients:
2 cups low salt beef or chicken broth
2/3 cup water
small treat sticks (like rawhide)
Mix broth with water, pour into ice cube trays, add a stick treat (like rawhide) and freeze.
Serve!

Here's one more:

Two-Ingredient Dog Treat. This recipe from dog-milk.com is made with whole wheat flour and pureed baby food. I love it because it allows you to get creative and vary the flavor - think sweet potato, beef, or chicken.

Please, just one more treat!
Make a little time and give these recipes a try; I know you'll have some doggone fun!

Lisa and Nikki's Friday Finds!

Hi Friends:

What has inspired and delighted us this week? Here they are - the sights, sounds, tastes and one-of-a-kinds we loved!

A boat cruise by a mighty woman. "From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome."
Tea is the new coffee. No it isn't, but let's pretend that it is...This vintage teacup is literally "a present!" Wouldn't this make a great gift packaged with tea of course!
These low maintenance wall decals by Fab are just fab. They spark interest and can be arranged and rearranged as many times as you like!
Look what we found! A 100 year old school bench that would be just perfect in a mud room, play room or on a porch!
Jack Johnson performing "In the Morning" sings about the only gifts we need from our children. Enjoy!
Have a great weekend!

Chair Flair!

Hi Friends:

It's not gone unnoticed over the years, that I have an assortment of chairs (and stools) hanging around. It's nice to have them readily accessible when hungry family and friends outnumber available table seating, and they are a great place to perch and take a load off in any room. In addition to providing seating, chairs can add flair! I am particularly fond of tucking a vintage chair that has become separated from it's original set in a corner or against a wall where I can enjoy it's style and finish. Take a look at a few chairs that Georgia's has acquired:
I love this French country chair; it's small enough for even the tightest spot.
This antique thonet-style chair with original green paint really pops!
Rush seat chairs add warmth and charm.
An understated vintage solid oak desk/office chair.
Circa 1900 primitive spindle-back barn chair.
Two examples of vintage stools - perfect for the kitchen.

Inspired? If you could use an extra chair or two, check out flea markets, antique malls and garage sales where you can often find a good deal on loners that will work hard for you!

Field_barn_clouds_sky_rural
Georgia's took these photos while vintage shopping in Sandwich, IL. The clouds were hanging so low, it felt like you could reach out and touch them!
magic_shell_ice_cream_homemade
Are you making your own chocolate Magic Shell? If not, here is the easy how-to. Mix 1/2 cup warmed coconut oil with 3/4 cup melted, good quality chocolate (melted in a microwave or in a bowl set over simmering water). Pour over ice cream and watch it harden! Makes 1 cup, enough for now and later.
stacked_pie_cooking
Image from dadaoist.tumblr.com
Have you heard of stack pie? The concept originated in the colonial South as a way of transporting pies to a gathering by stacking them on top of each other. The pies, often held together with caramel icing, could be four or five pies high becoming something new and delectable. Stacked Chess pies were a favorite. Pies were sliced thinly as they were very rich. We love this idea for special occasions. Let's see...apple and pecan, blueberry and lemon cream...the possibilities are endless.

How colorful are these vintage miners' bottles handcrafted by wrapping detonator wire around old wine bottles? See more at Jayson Home.
vintage_blue_wicker_file_basket_planter_garden
This proves you can plant in just about anything. How about this vintage blue wicker file basket; we think it's just adorbs!

This YouTube video entitled "Doughnuts" just makes us happy; the song is "All that I Needed" by Fremont. Simple and lovely - enjoy and make doughnuts!

We hope you're having a wonderful summer!
